In the realm of Formula 1, Aston Martin emerges with the prowess of its latest creation: the Vantage Safety Car, a pinnacle of performance and safety.
The brand had introduced its updated Vantage during the launch of its Formula 1 car, the AMR24, last month. Aston Martin will continue to provide one of the two F1 safety cars, the other being the Mercedes AMG GT Black Series.
The new Vantage will make its debut this weekend at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, driven by Bernd Maylander. It features a four-liter V8 twin-turbo engine which, according to Aston Martin, is 30% more powerful than its predecessor.
The car has several adaptations from a standard road version. In addition to the FIA lighting rig on top and the central console inside, its aerodynamics have been refined to enhance performance. The front splitter, rear wing, and floor have all been revised.
Aston Martin’s Director of Technology described the car as “the fastest and most driver-focused Vantage to date, making it perfect for this unique job. Transforming it into the official FIA Formula 1 Safety Car was primarily about adding all the necessary equipment in terms of FIA requirements.”
“Of course, it has additional aerodynamics not found on a road car to ensure it can tackle the track and showcase the capabilities of our new ultra-luxury, high-performance car.”
Maylander, who is starting his 25th year as the FIA F1 Safety Car driver, stated that his “first impressions were very positive in Bahrain (where the car was present in camouflage) as I could immediately feel the improvement in handling and, of course, power.”
The 2024 season will be Aston Martin’s fourth as the Safety Car supplier. The manufacturer also provides a medical car, based on its SUV model, the DBX.
