Aston Martin revises recent upgrades, retaining some parts while scaling back others amidst ongoing development challenges.
Aston Martin F1 reverses course on recent car developments at the Mexican GP.
The team, which has struggled to introduce upgrades this season that translate into performance gains, unveiled a major new package in Austin just over a week ago.
The new parts failed to elevate Aston Martin’s standing in the hierarchy, and team principal Mike Krack now admits the Silverstone-based outfit even backtracked on some elements of the Austin-spec package in Mexico last weekend.
“We’re pushing, but so are the other nine teams,” he admits.
“We need to improve our ability to design upgrades that deliver results immediately. That’s something we need to work on.”
“We have to take a step forward with next year’s car and start stronger than we did this season.”
Krack acknowledges that Aston Martin experimented somewhat with the Austin package in Mexico.
“On Friday, we ran two different aerodynamic configurations—one in the morning and another in the afternoon—to try to understand all the differences. The truth is we didn’t keep all the parts we introduced in Austin.”
“We retained some, but with others, we had to step back.”
He confirms that the Austin package was essentially the final upgrade for the 2024 car.
“Further improvements? We need to assess and see what’s possible. There’s also the budget cap, and we don’t want to get distracted with next year’s car on the horizon.”
“It’s a tricky balance. Let’s see what we’ve learned, what we can do, and which developments for next year’s car might apply to this year’s to maximise performance by season’s end.”
