Fernando Alonso highlights the role of fan enthusiasm in defining the unique spirit of the Italian Grand Prix at Monza.
Fernando Alonso has previously won at Monza driving for Scuderia Ferrari, and the Aston Martin F1 driver stated that the public’s enthusiasm is crucial in creating the special atmosphere of the Italian Grand Prix.
“The food, the fans… the track isn’t very interesting because it only has six turns and the rest is just full throttle. I think the fans are what make Monza so special,” Alonso said.
“Maybe not in the car because we’re focused on the track and the timing, but around the circuit, in the park, during the parade, it’s a special place, you feel a special energy. It’s like Monaco, Spain, or others, there’s always a special energy.”
He was also asked about the gaps separating Aston Martin from the top four teams, and whether the Silverstone team’s delay could be attributed to current regulations. The Spaniard refuted this idea and pointed to the team’s efforts.
“The regulations work very well as there are four teams fighting for the win, which we haven’t had before. If we are not able to fight higher up, it’s because we haven’t done a good enough job, not because of the regulations.”
“We have the same tools as the others, the same budget, good facilities, but we’re not doing a good job right now. The regulations work, and in 2026 we’ll likely see another hierarchy, but there will always be one or two teams dominating, that’s how Formula 1 is.”
He knows improvements are needed at Silverstone but admits to some frustration: “It’s a bit frustrating not being able to fight at the front, but we understand the deep nature of this sport and we have to wait for better days.”
Lance Stroll also confirmed that Aston Martin is seeking progress: “We’re trying to find performance in the car for the remaining nine races, there are still points to be scored. But it’s also the time of year when we focus on the 2025 car and development for 2025.”
“There’s a lot going on at Silverstone and we must continue. We have work because we are not as competitive as last year or at the start of the season, so we’re thinking about it while trying to bring as much performance as possible each week.”
