Alonso, Stroll Ready to Scrap for Points in China

Aston Martin faces an uphill battle in Shanghai as Alonso and Stroll prepare to charge from mid-grid in Sunday’s Grand Prix.

Aston Martin F1 faces a challenging task in Sunday’s Chinese Grand Prix, with both Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll starting from the seventh row on the grid.

Alonso narrowly missed out on Q3, finishing 13th in qualifying. The two-time world champion admitted frustration but remained hopeful that changes made to the car will pay off during the race.

“Qualifying wasn’t ideal today — we missed the top 10 by just a tenth of a second,” Alonso explained. “There was a bit of traffic, but that’s the same for everyone. We made some setup changes after the Sprint to improve tyre degradation. We didn’t see much benefit in qualifying, but let’s see what happens tomorrow. I still believe we can find opportunities and fight for points.”

Teammate Lance Stroll echoed a similar sentiment. The Canadian driver also exited in Q2 and will start 14th, lining up right behind Alonso.

“We gave it a good shot today and ended up more or less where we expected,” said Stroll. “I had some clean laps and tried to apply what we learned from the Sprint earlier. The tyres were tricky to manage, but that’s been the case for everyone. We’ll keep pushing to get everything we can out of the car on race day.”

Despite a difficult qualifying, Aston Martin remains focused on turning things around and bringing home points on Sunday.
