$1 Billion for Verstappen? Aston Martin Fires Back

17/01/2025

Aston Martin refutes speculation of a $1 billion offer to sign Max Verstappen, as his camp remains silent on the matter.

Aston Martin has dismissed reports that team owner Lawrence Stroll is prepared to spend $1 billion to bring Max Verstappen into the team.

A source told the Daily Mail that team CEO Jefferson Slack “said Max was going to join Aston Martin.”

Such a deal would reunite the four-time world champion Verstappen with Adrian Newey, set to begin working with the team in March. Aston Martin has also replaced team principal Mike Krack with renowned former Mercedes engineer Andy Cowell.

When asked about the rumors linking Verstappen to Aston Martin, a team spokesperson “categorically denied” them.

Verstappen’s management has acknowledged the speculation but refrained from commenting or denying it outright. Their only response was: “That’s nice!”—a phrase open to various interpretations, ironic or otherwise.

Verstappen’s future beyond 2025 remains uncertain, though he appears excited by Red Bull’s recruitment of iconic German manager Jürgen Klopp to oversee the brand’s football programs.

“I think they’ll have a lot to discuss and many questions for each other,” said Dr. Helmut Marko, Red Bull’s F1 advisor.

“What they undoubtedly share is that neither lets themselves be manipulated, and both are known and respected for their clear, direct communication. We’re now working to arrange their meeting as soon as possible.”

“Max is a big football fan and asked me to invite Klopp to a race. One of Max’s closest friends is Virgil van Dijk, captain of the Dutch national team and, for many years, one of Klopp’s key players at Liverpool FC.”

“That’s what’s great about Red Bull: our extensive sports program at the highest level allows us to create synergies and bring key figures together.”
