Fernando Alonso expressed satisfaction with his first day of testing at Zandvoort, finishing in sixth place. However, the Aston Martin F1 driver admits that he has no clear understanding of the team hierarchy or where his team stands within it.
“This is the point in the weekend when you’re not sure what to say in front of the cameras. We’ve just finished the second practice session and haven’t analysed the data yet. It’s great to be back; everything feels so fast after four weeks without driving an F1 car. It was very enjoyable—a good track, a good car, but we’ll have to wait until tomorrow to see about competitiveness,” noted Alonso.
“It was challenging; the wind will play a significant role throughout the weekend, and we need to focus on that. Tomorrow might be wet, and we’ll face challenges like we did in the first practice session. So, after this session, we should be ready.”
The Spaniard acknowledges that the wind is a crucial factor: “You feel it on every turn; F1 cars prefer headwinds to generate more downforce, and we dislike tailwinds. This track runs a full 180 degrees, so you can really feel the shifts mid-corner, but it’s the same for everyone.”
Lance Stroll is pleased with his day and is delighted to be driving at Zandvoort: “We managed to learn a lot; it feels good to be back in the car, and it’s a fantastic circuit to drive on.”
