Andrea Kimi Antonelli is about to tick off a major milestone—his first-ever Formula 1 Grand Prix. This weekend in Melbourne, the young Italian will step onto the big stage, ready to race with the best. Could he surprise everyone and aim for a podium? If his car delivers, why not?
But Antonelli is keeping his feet on the ground. He’s excited, well-prepared, and fully aware of the challenge ahead.
“It’s incredible. This is a dream come true. I’ve been waiting for this moment my whole life. Winter felt so long—I won’t lie—but I’m super happy to be here. Melbourne is a special place for my first Grand Prix, and I can’t wait to see how we perform once we hit the track.”
No Overambition, Just a Clean Start
For now, the goal is simple: start strong, stay consistent, and build from there.
“Honestly, I don’t know what to expect because this is my first Grand Prix. I don’t want to aim too high—I just want a clean weekend, find my rhythm, and build on that.”
Luckily, Antonelli already has experience on the Melbourne circuit, having raced there in Formula 2. A small but valuable advantage.
“Yeah, it helps a lot. I already know the layout, so I don’t have to spend time learning it. I understand where to overtake and where to defend. Last year’s F2 experience was definitely useful.”
The Bigger Picture: Growth Over the Season
His rookie year will be all about learning. Each race, each session, will be another step forward.
“There’s so much to learn this season. So many new situations to experience. But a good season for me would be one where I maximize every opportunity and make the most of every result.”
“And, of course, keep learning. Keep improving every weekend. The goal never changes—as a driver, you want to be the fastest, you want to win. But I’m also realistic. The level is insanely high, and that’s what makes this sport and Formula 1 so special. I can’t wait to see how I evolve throughout the season.”
Facing a Legend: Racing Against Hamilton
A surreal moment awaits Antonelli—racing against Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time world champion was once his mentor at Mercedes. Now, he’ll be an opponent in Ferrari red.
Is it strange? Will emotions get in the way when they go wheel-to-wheel?
“Honestly, it’s surreal to race against someone like Lewis. I grew up watching him. Since joining Mercedes, I’ve followed his career, and it’s been incredible. It’s a bit weird to now share the track with him—and with all the other drivers too. When you’re used to seeing them on TV, then suddenly you’re racing them, it’s an unbelievable feeling.”
“Last year, I got to work on a few trackside sessions and start collaborating with the team. Lewis was always super nice to me, gave me some advice. He even left a message in the drivers’ room that I’ll read soon. He’s been really supportive, and I’m grateful for that. It just shows he’s not only an incredible driver but also a great person.”
Antonelli’s debut season is just beginning, and while he’s not setting the bar too high yet, one thing is certain—he’s here to learn, grow, and eventually fight at the front.
