Aston Martin F1 embraces Andy Cowell’s strategy to replace emotion with robotic precision, aiming for innovative growth and consistent results.
Andy Cowell is the new director of Aston Martin F1, and he already has a clear vision of how he and his technical department will approach the 2025 season. The former Mercedes engine director believes his team must limit emotions when tackling development.
In his view, this will be the best way to find solutions without feeling discouraged by potentially insufficient results next year.
“I think 2026 is an opportunity for everyone, but we are working hard to make the car faster for next year as well, and with our new facilities for 2026, 2027, 2028, we are growing with our infrastructure,” Cowell stated.
“I don’t like the phrase ‘rolling the dice.’ I’m more of the ‘you work hard and make your own luck’ school of thought. It’s like what someone said about golf: the more I practice, the luckier I get. So, it’s every project I want us to improve—it’s not just aiming for a single point.”
“This is a change for us, but I want to be incredibly creative in everything we work on, then truly robotic in how we conduct experiments, trusting their outcomes. We will try to lose our emotional attachment when reviewing results, learn from them, and come back as quickly as possible.”
