Andretti’s Dual Chase: Targets F1 and NASCAR

02/08/2024

Andretti sets sights on Formula 1 inclusion and also aims to enter NASCAR, broadening its sports presence.

Despite being denied entry into Formula 1 by the Formula One Management, Andretti asserts its ongoing intention to expand its motorsport portfolio by joining the series and other major motorsports.

Andretti Global aims to add more than just F1 to its existing championship lineup, which includes IndyCar, Formula E, IMSA, and Extreme E.

“We are unique in participating in as many series as we do,” stated President JF Thormann during a mid-season review.

“Moreover, Michael’s enduring ambition is that we must eventually complete the circle with Formula 1, which is well documented. And hopefully NASCAR as well.”

“This would allow us to have a race nearly every weekend, helping to promote our name and keep us fully engaged.”

The FIA approved Andretti’s request to enter F1 last year, but Formula One Management rejected it, stating that the team led by 1978 World Champion Mario Andretti’s son was not sufficiently renowned to add value to the series—a claim Thormann completely dismisses.

“Often, when I travel and wear the logo, many people ask me, ‘Do you work for the Andretti race team, is it Mario, is it Michael?'”

“You realize the power of the name and how recognizable it is. It embodies hard work, Mario’s legacy that’s evident even in a T-shirt or a polo on your back. It’s a real pride to carry that name.”
