Alpine F1’s Flavio Briatore hails Franco Colapinto as a crucial talent but stays elusive on his potential debut this season.
Alpine F1 reserve driver Franco Colapinto has been presented by Flavio Briatore as a key figure within the Enstone-based team.
The French team’s executive advisor praised the 21-year-old, describing him as one of the team’s “most important assets.”
Amid persistent rumors that Colapinto could find himself racing well before the end of the 2025 season, Briatore promised to provide the driver with the necessary tools to succeed when the time comes.
“He is fast. He is a very, very good driver,” said the Italian.
“He needs experience, but we believe in Franco. We fought to have Franco in the team. And for the future, Franco is one of our most important assets.”
“In Formula 1, timing is what matters. He is a nice guy, and he respects the sponsors. He has a very good relationship with all the engineers. He is working very hard with us right now. I am very happy.”
When asked about the possibility of Colapinto replacing Jack Doohan mid-season, Briatore remained vague but reiterated his confidence in the young driver’s potential.
“We promise that we will do our best to put Franco in a position to do the job. That is what we must do. We are doing everything we can with the engineers to ensure he has the right car to get the job done. And after that, we will see.”
“Patience is needed because he is very young, but I believe in his talent. Because when you have talent and manage it well, you succeed. I can see that Franco is naturally fast. This year, he will be a test driver, and he is already working hard in the simulator.”
