Gasly: Our upgrades have shown potential

23/10/2024

Pierre Gasly believes Alpine’s upgrades hold promise as the team aims for a better result in Mexico after Austin setbacks.

Alpine F1 saw improvement in the United States, with Pierre Gasly achieving his best starting position of the season, as well as the team’s, by securing sixth on the grid in Austin, just 0.688 seconds off pole position.

Unfortunately for him, the race didn’t reward him with points, but the Frenchman acknowledges the potential of the upgrades installed on his A524, which will need to be better exploited this weekend in Mexico.

“Our Sunday in Austin was a bit disappointing, especially with high expectations starting from sixth. We had a lot of potential to secure a good result in the points, but unfortunately, the race didn’t go our way,” Gasly recalls.

“It’s a shame we couldn’t capitalize on our best starting position of the year. Our pit stop was slow while trying to overtake Magnussen, and once we had the hard tires on, we really lacked pace and balance. We have a lot to learn from our package, but on the positive side, our upgrades have shown potential, and we’ll work hard to extract even more from the car in the coming races.”

“I’m excited to get back on track right away this week in Mexico. The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez is unique with its altitude. With thinner air, we have to run high-downforce wings, but the car always feels light at the wheel, and we reach some of the highest top speeds of the season on the long main straight. It’s a very different challenge from Austin, but we’ll do our best to apply all our learnings from Texas and aim for a stronger weekend.”
