Alpine F1's Sprint Success Gasly Shines Ocon Faces Setbacks

Gasly’s Late-Season Surge Earns Top 10; Ocon Left Discontent

01/11/2024

Alpine secures another strong result, with Gasly in form while Ocon struggles to find pace in Brazil’s SQ1.

Alpine F1 once again reached the final stage of Sprint Qualifying in Brazil, with Pierre Gasly affirming his impressive late-season form. The French driver expressed his satisfaction and hopes to secure points in the Sprint.

“I’m pleased with today’s Sprint Qualifying result. It’s our third consecutive appearance in Q3, albeit just for the Sprint this time. We delivered strong qualifying performances right from the start of the first session,” Gasly stated.

“I felt good in the car throughout the day. This allowed us to approach SQ1 with confidence, work our way through, and string together solid laps, steadily increasing the pace. We ended up leading the midfield, which is a sign of progress for us.”

“We can all be very pleased with this. The aim now is to stay in contention for points tomorrow in the Sprint. It won’t be easy, but I’m satisfied with this start, and we’ll continue working hard to score over the rest of the weekend.”

Esteban Ocon, meanwhile, did not make it past SQ1, and his frustration contrasted with his teammate’s optimism: “We can’t be satisfied with our Sprint Qualifying result, even if the feeling was positive in SQ1.”

“It was a clean lap, no mistakes, but it seems we’re lacking something. We need to identify the reasons and seek improvements for the remainder of the weekend.”

“Tomorrow brings a fresh opportunity to continue learning, and we need to aim for progress. The Sprint is an opportunity, so let’s see how it goes, knowing that I’ll give it my all.”
