Alpine F1 showcases encouraging progress in Mexico as Ocon highlights the car’s enhanced grip and comfort during Friday’s practice sessions.
Alpine F1 enjoyed a rather positive first day on Friday in Mexico. Esteban Ocon was pleased to feel a more comfortable car and managed to secure a spot in the top 10 during the first free practice session.
“It was a positive day. I immediately felt comfortable in the car, and the grip was much better than in previous years on this circuit,” the French driver stated after the day’s activities.
“It was a good session in Free Practice 1, we were in the top 10, but we still don’t fully know the potential of the others. So, we will continue to work hard to improve the performance of our car.”
“With the testing of the Pirelli prototypes and the running plan in Free Practice 2, it’s difficult to make comparisons. Nevertheless, there is always something to learn when the car is on track, and I hope we can have a productive final session tomorrow and be competitive in qualifying.”
Pierre Gasly lacked confidence during this first day: “It was an intense Friday in Mexico, with an extended session this afternoon to test the Pirelli prototypes. I didn’t feel completely comfortable behind the wheel throughout the day, and there are clearly areas where we need to improve.”
“Overall, it’s quite a tricky track, difficult to master in these conditions, and we made some progress between the two sessions. We will try to build on this tomorrow morning with an important Free Practice 3 session. We need to keep refining the setup and aim for a strong position ahead of qualifying.”
