Alpine F1 Eyes Colapinto for 2026 After 2025 Rejection

Alpine F1: Briatore Rules Out Colapinto for 2025, Eyes 2026

Alpine F1 dismisses Colapinto’s 2025 chances, citing costs, but hints at a possible 2026 move under Briatore’s watch.

For several weeks, Alpine F1 had been considering the possible recruitment of Franco Colapinto.

The team had already confirmed its 2025 lineup with Pierre Gasly and Jack Doohan. However, Flavio Briatore, Alpine’s advisor, revealed that while Colapinto was indeed an option, it would more likely be for 2026.

Briatore stated he was interested “in any fast driver, and Colapinto has positively surprised me.”

“But we have contracts with Gasly, Doohan, and our reserve driver Paul Aron for next season. If there were a possibility to bring Colapinto in for 2026, it’s something we would need to consider. But for 2025, it no longer seems feasible.”

Briatore also emphasized he did not want to rush into any decisions, possibly due to Williams F1 driving up the stakes.

“In this sport, after one good race, people are quickly elevated to the top. Then the price skyrockets, and suddenly we’re talking about $20 or $30 million for a driver.”

“We want to focus on the strong elements of our Academy and stop randomly recruiting drivers. We’ll likely stick to three drivers: Aron, [Gabriel] Mini, and [Victor] Martins.”
