Alpine F1 names Jack Doohan as Pierre Gasly’s partner for the 2025 season.
Officially confirmed, though hardly a surprise despite the delayed announcement which was expected just before the summer break: Jack Doohan, Alpine F1’s third driver managed by Flavio Briatore, has been selected as the second principal to replace Esteban Ocon for the 2025 season (with only one year confirmed), teaming up with Pierre Gasly.
Appointed as the reserve driver for Alpine F1 at the start of 2023, Jack Doohan continued in this role for the 2024 season.
This year, his campaign includes an intensive testing programme with former F1 cars and significant simulator work at Enstone to support the car’s development.
After several impressive years in karting in his native Australia, Doohan made his single-seater debut in the British Formula 4 Championship in 2018. Continuing his development in the Italian and ADAC F4 series and the Asian Formula 3 Championship, he moved to Formula 3 with HWA Racelab in 2020.
The following year, his stint with Trident Racing yielded incredible results and a runner-up position. He thus joined the Alpine Academy’s development programme and finished sixth in his first Formula 2 season in 2022. In his second campaign in the feeder series, he clinched three victories—including back-to-back feature race wins in Hungary and Belgium—to finish third in the final overall standings.
Doohan has already demonstrated his F1 capabilities by taking the wheel for the team during the mandatory free practice sessions for rookies in 2022, 2023, and 2024, alongside his duties as the team’s reserve driver.
“I am thrilled to be promoted to a principal driver with the BWT Alpine F1 Team in 2025. I am deeply grateful for the confidence that the team’s management has placed in me. There is so much work to be done to be ready, and I will do my utmost to absorb as much information and knowledge as possible to prepare for the challenge ahead. It is extraordinarily gratifying to be the first member of the Alpine Academy to secure a seat with the team, and I am extremely thankful to everyone who has supported me in making this dream a reality. It is an exciting moment, a proud day for my family, and I look forward to fully embracing and giving my all behind the scenes.”
Oliver Oakes, the new team director, adds: “We are delighted to promote Jack as a principal driver from next season and to give him the opportunity to demonstrate his talent and skills in Formula 1. Jack will become the first member of the Alpine Academy to secure a racing seat within the team, which is extraordinarily gratifying for the team and its programme for young drivers. I personally worked with Jack in 2019 and am fully aware of his raw talent and potential. He is a hard worker behind the scenes and his commitment is greatly appreciated by the entire team. With Pierre and him, we have a well-balanced crew, mixing youthful energy, experience, and pure speed. We are looking forward to working with Jack and Pierre to continue developing the car and advancing the team on the grid.”
Doohan will continue his role as a reserve driver for the rest of the season, regularly participating in testing sessions of old cars (TPC) with the A522 F1, as well as his duties on the team’s simulator during certain race weekends.
