Winless in 2025, Fernando Alonso faces matching his lowest F1 start as Aston Martin struggles to deliver early-season performance.
Still scoreless in 2025, Fernando Alonso is relying on a bit of racing mayhem to avoid matching one of the worst starts of his Formula 1 career.
The two-time world champion finished 15th in Miami, marking his sixth consecutive race without points this season, his longest drought since the opening rounds of 2017.
After skipping the Monaco Grand Prix to race in the Indy 500, Alonso failed to score in Canada as well. He eventually ended the dry spell with a ninth-place finish in Baku for McLaren.
But the pressure is still on. If Alonso finishes outside the points again at the upcoming Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in Imola, he’ll equal his worst-ever start to a season, seven races without a single point, last seen in 2015. Only his rookie year in 2001 was worse, when he ended the season without scoring at all.
Speaking candidly, Alonso admitted that mistakes and missed opportunities have played a role.
“In Japan I was 11th, in Jeddah we were spot on, and there have been three or four chances to score points this year, but chaos got in the way,” he said.
“We’ve already had a few wild races. In Australia, I went off into the gravel. In China, three cars were disqualified. And then we had a brake issue during the Sprint.”
“We missed out on points in all three of those races. I’m sure there’ll be one or two more chances, and probably more chaos for others too. Hopefully, we’ll be ready to take advantage.”
Asked about what’s being done to turn things around, Alonso deflected to the team.
“I’m doing my best behind the wheel, but that’s a better question for the team bosses. They know what’s coming. They’re working hard, and we trust them. But I don’t always have weekly updates on the technical side or upgrades.”
