In Suzuka, Aston Martin F1 faced contrasting fortunes: Alonso excelled, while Stroll struggled from the back.

While Fernando Alonso once again had a strong weekend for the team, Lance Stroll, starting from the back of the grid, failed to make it into the top 10.

“It was an excellent weekend for me with a fifth place in qualifying yesterday and a sixth place in the race,” highlighted the Spaniard.

“It was one of my best drives in a while. I think we slightly outperformed our real position here this weekend, but we’re executing our races very well this season and I’m scoring good points for the team.”

“Our plan for today worked out well and a special thanks for the pit stops which were very impressive, so thanks to the whole team for that. We still need to analyze our upgrade package, so we will look over all our data from this weekend in Japan before we head back to Shanghai.”

Alonso’s very enthusiastic statements, emphasizing his own performances, obviously contrast with those of Lance Stroll.

“Today’s race was challenging. Starting in 16th place meant we had a compromised strategy and struggled to find clean air to make progress.”

“We were also lacking the straight-line speed we needed. However, I made some good overtakes at turn 6, which led to some fun battles. We hoped to catch Yuki [Tsunoda] for the 10th place, but the soft tires just didn’t have grip towards the end of the race, so it was disappointing not to finish in the points.”

“We will apply these lessons in China in two weeks.”
