Fernando Alonso voices his high hopes for Aston Martin, merging ambition with realism in the F1 challenge.
Fernando Alonso is pleased to be with Aston Martin F1, praising the team’s progress since Lawrence Stroll’s takeover and its rebranding as Aston Martin. However, the Spaniard is also aware of the significant work needed to achieve the set goals.
“There’s no other team in the paddock with as much ambition and plans for the future as Aston,” asserts Alonso. “But at the same time, these goals must be met and results achieved. Just two years ago, this team was brand new, having roughly doubled its paddock workforce.”
“They were in an old Jordan building. Now, they’re housed in a state-of-the-art factory. Last year, we had a very fast car, and we need to learn a lot off-track about developing the car to compete with the top teams.”
Alonso acknowledges that reaching this level will take time: “This year, we are on track with this type of development. So, I think these are very good signs. But ultimately, winning races and championships is necessary.”
“We have a good idea of where we stand”
Lance Stroll is excited to return to the Japanese Grand Prix and the Suzuka circuit, his highlight of the year. The Canadian driver doesn’t anticipate a drastic change in the pecking order this weekend.
“I’m looking forward to it; I’m always excited before this race because it’s my favorite track on the calendar, it’s very fast, truly unique, and it’s a pleasure to drive on, so it’s going to be cool,” Stroll stated.
“Every circuit is different, but we have a good idea of where we stand. It’s not so different from a place like Jeddah, with many fast corners. So, we have an idea of what we need to work on, and it’s going to be an interesting weekend.”
While hoping for regular improvements, he is pleased with the initial upgrades: “It’s performance, on the car, in all areas. We need to keep working, adding new features to the car, and focusing on our weaknesses, like getting the tires to work on Saturday.”
