Alonso Urges Patience as Aston Martin Eyes Steady Progress

No 2025 Miracle: Alonso Calls for Time to Build Success

14/12/2024

Fernando Alonso remains realistic about Aston Martin’s progress, emphasizing patience as the team targets steady improvements for the future.

After a promising 2023 season, 2024 turned out to be a rude awakening for Aston Martin F1. Fernando Alonso grew frustrated towards the end of the season but remains more optimistic for the upcoming year as the team reorganizes and continues to adapt to its new facilities.

“Now, I think we can reset, learn from all the difficulties and mistakes of this year, and apply them to next year’s project,” Alonso said. “The new factory is now complete, and the new wind tunnel will soon be operational.”

“Andy Cowell has already addressed some of the weaknesses he identified within the team, so we trust the new leadership, and I believe things are heading in the right direction, which makes me happy.”

“But in Formula 1, there aren’t many miracles—you have to be patient, you have to pinpoint the right area in the car, and you have to find the upgrade that will truly unlock the potential of these ground-effect cars.”

Alonso wants Aston Martin to draw inspiration from McLaren’s ability to deliver a game-changing and highly effective evolution in performance: “They started at the back and were winning races by mid-season, and we need to learn from them. It’s a good example of how things can be done.”

“In Austria, they introduced a package that gained six or seven tenths, and it was the start of a series of upgrades that eventually made their car the fastest. So, that Austrian package, if we want to call it that, is something we need to work towards.”
