Alonso Hails Resilience After Ninth in Abu Dhabi Finale

Alonso: Ninth Place Showcases Aston Martin F1’s True Grit

08/12/2024

Fernando Alonso reflects on a strong finish, praising Aston Martin’s resilience after securing ninth in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Alonso is pleased to have ended his season with a streak of two points-finishing races, following a six-race drought. The Aston Martin F1 driver finished ninth at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, praising his team for their efforts throughout the weekend and over the course of the season.

“These points are important to finish on a positive note with results in Qatar and Abu Dhabi. They are deserved because the team here never stopped working to extract the maximum from the car. This race was enjoyable, with plenty of action, and I’m ready to head into 2025 starting fresh with the car, applying what we’ve learned this year, so I’m looking forward to it,” Alonso said.

“We faced challenges this year, more than last season. The team responded well to adversity and these challenges. This weekend was a great example; we weren’t satisfied with the car, but we didn’t settle for that. We found performance because we never gave up, and that’s what it takes.”

Lance Stroll offered only brief remarks to the media, simply expressing his eagerness for some time off before shifting focus to the next year. Aston Martin’s official communication included additional comments about his final race.

“I had a good start and gained four positions on the first lap, but the car wasn’t competitive enough to fight higher today. After the pit stops, we just didn’t have the pace to climb through the traffic and into the points.”

“But we regained a few places, overtaking [Jack] Doohan and [Yuki] Tsunoda. It wasn’t the season we had hoped for, but we will do everything to come back stronger next year. Thanks to the team for their hard work during this tough season.”
