Alonso Eyes Major F1 Car Upgrades for Season Ahead

Alonso Awaits Key Upgrades in Aston Martin’s New Strategy

11/04/2024

Fernando Alonso anticipates significant updates for his Aston Martin, marking a strategic shift for the season’s races.

Fernando Alonso is eager to see upgrades arriving for his car. The Aston Martin F1 driver confirms that the initial updates brought to Suzuka were just the beginning of a larger package of updates scheduled for later this season.

“We’ll see, I think there are two or three things in the pipeline to improve the car,” Alonso stated. “I believe this first package is just the foundation of what we’ll introduce later in the season.”

“So, we still need to analyze a lot of things. But as I said, we’re performing very well on Sundays, maximizing points, thus earning more than we normally would.”

The Spaniard also commends the progress in operational aspects: “The pit stops were perfect. In fact, at the second stop when I saw the green light and went for it, I thought they might not have changed all four tires because, for me, it was the quickest of all time.”

“I’m curious to see the time, so there are small things here and there that contribute to achieving results. But fundamentally, I think the pace is not where we want it to be, and that’s something we need to focus on now.”

Alonso hopes his car will perform well in China and that he can leverage his experience on a weekend with limited practice: “I think it always gives us a bit more opportunity when you’re a bit down on pace, in mixed conditions, or Sprint weekends.”

“I expect, in China, with its long corners and front-limited circuit, maybe like Australia, Ferrari to be very quick, but Red Bull as well. We’ll see, we have a very powerful DRS and maybe that will help us on China’s long straight.”
