Vowles Hails Albon's Consistency, Blames Sainz’s Quali Issues

James Vowles praises Alex Albon’s solid performance in Suzuka, while pointing fingers at the mismanagement of Carlos Sainz’s qualifying session.

Williams F1 secured more points at Suzuka with Alex Albon’s strong ninth-place finish, keeping the team in fifth place in the Constructors’ Championship. Team principal James Vowles praised Albon’s performance, highlighting his consistency and reliability.

“It’s fantastic to add two more points to our tally in the championship, thanks to another solid and consistent performance from Alex,” Vowles commented. However, he expressed disappointment over the handling of Carlos Sainz’s qualifying session in Japan.

“Almost all cars finished in the same order as qualifying, and in my opinion, we mishandled the traffic situation with Carlos during qualifying. That was our mistake. Thankfully, Carlos is in great shape, and I’m looking forward to the next two races to see how we perform and further develop the package on his car.”

Vowles acknowledged how crucial every tiny detail is in the fight for the championship: “The battle for the title is extremely tight, and just a few milliseconds can make all the difference. We’ll be doing everything we can to stay focused and extract the best performance in the upcoming races.”
