Alex Albon remains optimistic at the Emilia-Romagna GP, overcoming early setbacks to find pace and enjoyment with the Williams FW46.
Alex Albon had a rough start to his preparation for the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in Imola. The Williams F1 driver encountered an electrical issue when he hit a kerb, ending his FP1 session after just eight laps.
“We’re obviously a bit behind on track time today after the electrical issue I experienced in FP1,” said the Thai driver, who nonetheless enjoyed his day. “It took some time to identify and fix the problem, but the team did an excellent job getting the car back on track.”
“I don’t know if it’s the track or the wind, but I feel like the car is on rails, yet I’m 18th, so we have work to do. Despite that, I’m enjoying myself, and it’s great to be on a real circuit. It won’t be easy, but I’m happy with our progress and hope we can do more.”
Logan Sargeant’s running was reduced at the start of FP2 due to an issue, and he couldn’t manage a proper low-fuel simulation. However, he remains optimistic about the day.
“At least we did some laps. FP2 was compromised, we only had a few laps on low fuel, and they didn’t go well as we couldn’t get the tires to work. That’s the main issue; the car’s balance was quite good,” Sargeant said.
“The grip is incredible; I was surprised during the first laps, but it’s very cool. We are on the limit,” he continued, before assessing his chances for Q2. “It will be tricky; if we do everything perfectly, we might sneak in, so we’ll try our best.”
