Albon Targets Strategic Edge for Williams F1 by 2026

Williams F1: Albon Eyes Strong Standing by 2026 Season

13/08/2024

Williams F1’s Albon sets sights on a strategic advantage by 2026, leveraging new regulations.

Alex Albon has observed significant advancements in performance and infrastructure among Williams F1’s rivals. Nonetheless, the Grove team’s driver is pleased with the progress being made in his own team’s facilities and workflows, despite the gains made elsewhere.

“We can see how other teams are modernizing,” Albon stated. “Red Bull, for example, or Haas. But I remain satisfied with what we are doing, focusing on what matters. Realistically, if you look at the top teams, they have a very strong base, a solid foundation.”

“This means that each year, even if they start off weak, they always finish strong. They have the power and the right people in place to overcome any weaknesses they had in their car, for example.”

“So yes, we could start 2026 in a good situation. But without the right foundations, you can never develop. You’ve seen it with other teams.”

“They might start a regulation period well, then decline throughout the year. I believe in the process we are following. I know it might mean some short-term pain, but I am okay with that.”

Williams did not revolutionize its car this winter, but the team changed enough parts and concepts to address some deep-seated issues: “There are still some similarities between last year’s car and this one.”

“The extremes are fewer, but that feeling is still there. We look at feedback from last year and we can see some synergy between what we said last year and this year. But as I said, the extremes are fewer, yet they exist.”

“And I think it’s much better now, especially in low-speed corners, an area where we really struggled last year. We’re quite good this year. Monaco is a good example. But even there, there are still a couple of corners where we lose too much time per lap.”
