Albon is set for a points finish, feeling confident, while Sargeant grapples with a lack of pace in qualifying.
Alex Albon narrowly missed Q3 but will start tenth following Max Verstappen’s penalty. The Williams F1 driver is pleased with his performance, although he would have preferred an official Q3 entry, and he remains awed by the challenge of Spa-Francorchamps in the rain.
“I’m happy, tenth place would have been good, but 11th is still in the right zone. It was tricky, Eau Rouge in the rain is quite a corner. We’ll see, Max has a penalty, we’re competing against Esteban and Fernando on pure pace, so we’re in that fight,” stated Albon, who is targeting points.
“It won’t be easy, we’re battling for the tenth spot. We made a lot of changes since yesterday and haven’t seen what they do because of the rain. Tomorrow, we’ll have the grid formation laps to get used to it and hopefully take advantage of that.”
Logan Sargeant clocked the 19th fastest time and will be 18th on the grid after Yuki Tsunoda’s penalty. The American didn’t run at the most opportune moment in Q3 but still thinks he wouldn’t have matched his teammate’s result.
“Spa is always tricky. It’s never easy when it’s like this, the track dries and everything comes down to the last lap, but we didn’t do it. We don’t know what was possible, but I don’t think we had the pace,” Sargeant lamented.
“Honestly, I don’t know, we’ve struggled in the previous races with more degradation and overheating, and I expect the same tomorrow. I hope we can make the best of it.”
