Carlos Sainz’s swift adaptation at Williams has impressed Alex Albon, who sees parallels with his own journey and praises his teammate’s technical insight.
Alex Albon has been impressed by Carlos Sainz’s ability to provide precise technical feedback, helping Williams F1 understand its brand-new FW47. The Thai driver acknowledges that having been part of a top team, as he himself experienced, gives his new teammate an impressive analytical edge.
“I think he has a lot of experience and communicates very well what he feels in the car and the directions he believes it should take,” Albon said. “In many ways, it reminds me of my own time at Red Bull before coming here.”
“You understand and feel what your previous car was doing and what the current one lacks. Even over the past few days, I think he has been able to grasp that and put the car in a good position.”
This allows the duo to work well together in developing the car. “I think he’s relatively comfortable with it. But it’s good—we speak the same language, we have the same feedback. The team is handling things well, and we’re responding effectively to solutions and other adjustments. So far, so good.”
Williams team principal James Vowles, who pushed for weeks to secure Sainz’s signature, stated that his new recruit’s adaptation had exceeded expectations.
“The speed at which he has settled in has been astounding,” Vowles said. “His feedback is more concise than I expected. In just a few words, he has the ability to bring our team to an absolute celebration.”
