Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon finish in the top 10 on Friday, setting a strong foundation for Williams F1 racing at the Saudi GP.
Has Carlos Sainz found the perfect setup for his FW47? It’s a question worth asking after the Williams F1 driver finished fifth on the opening day of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, showing he could improve with each fast lap.
“It’s been a positive day for us here in Jeddah,” said the Spanish driver. “We made progress between FP1 and FP2, trying out various adjustments with the setup and my driving style to get the most out of the car.”
“The lap on the soft tire is a good demonstration of that progress, and even though it’s only Friday, the feeling on this tricky circuit is positive. We’ll aim to continue in this direction tomorrow!”
As for Alex Albon, he faced some obstacles due to interference from Lewis Hamilton and ended the day slightly behind Sainz. However, the Thai driver remains optimistic as he also made it into the top 10: “It was okay. I was happier with the car after FP1 than FP2. I had a lot of fun, and the speeds we’re reaching are incredible.”
“There was some confusion with the soft tires, so we need to make progress and understand what went wrong. There’s also some work to do on the long runs. We need to fine-tune, but it will be tight. Tires are a key topic here. As the temperatures drop, it will get harder to get them into the right window, but we’re usually good at that.”
Williams F1 seems to be in a solid position, with both drivers showing promise as the weekend progresses.
