Williams’ Alex Albon shines in Miami Sprint shootout while Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz admits to a costly qualifying mistake in SQ2.
Alex Albon delivered another strong performance in Miami, securing eighth place on the grid for the Sprint at the Florida Grand Prix. Despite the solid result, the Williams driver admitted he was hoping for more.
“I’m a bit disappointed with SQ3. The lap felt good, but I ended up further off than expected,” Albon said. “The car was actually better in practice than in qualifying. We struggled to get the tires in the right window, and that’s the main thing we need to fix for tomorrow. Still, we’re the best of the rest, and scoring points is the goal.”
Carlos Sainz will start the Sprint from 15th after a mistake in SQ2 cost him the chance to post a time. The Ferrari driver was candid about the error and took responsibility.
“It wasn’t the best strategy. We went for just one push lap and when you do that, one mistake means no time on the board,” Sainz explained. “I locked up into Turn 11. I didn’t feel like I was doing anything unusual, so I’ll need to review what happened.”
Looking ahead, Sainz remains optimistic despite the setback. “It’s going to be a long Sprint for me, but I believe we had the pace to be in the top ten today. It’s a costly mistake, but the good news is it happened during the Sprint. We still have real qualifying and the race coming up.”
