Albon Blames Past Struggles on Car, Not His Driving

Williams Star Albon: "It Was Always The Car, Not Me"

Alex Albon credits his strong 2025 start to having a stable car, insisting past struggles were down to machinery, not his performance.

Williams driver Alex Albon is finally enjoying the benefits of a “consistent car” after a strong start to the 2025 season.

The Thai driver has scored all 20 points for Williams so far, making this his best start since joining the team. Reflecting on his earlier seasons, Albon made it clear that he never doubted his own performance, but rather pointed to the limitations of his previous cars.

“I want to be realistic. Honestly, and maybe a little selfishly, I believe I have always been consistent,” Albon said. “Since I arrived at Williams, I have felt my performance has been steady. Now that we have a car that delivers week after week, it is finally showing in the results.”

Despite the strong momentum, Albon admitted that the team’s decision to shift focus toward their 2026 project brings a new kind of frustration. With Williams planning to prioritize the long term, it could leave their current FW47 vulnerable as rivals bring upgrades throughout the year.

“We have to stay realistic. We don’t know what the other teams are planning for next season. We have started strong, which definitely changes the way we look at this year and what sacrifices we are willing to make for next year.”

Still, Albon understands the bigger picture.

“We want to make a major step forward for next season. That means now is the time to score points. Every weekend matters because we don’t know when a midfield team might bring an upgrade that shifts the balance.”

He pointed out that Williams’ early development work on the FW47 has given them an important head start over their traditional midfield rivals.

“A lot of teams have not introduced major upgrades yet, and we are taking advantage of that. When the field is so tightly packed, starting the season with a strong car can carry you for several races. That is why it is so crucial.”
