At 40, Lewis Hamilton joins Ferrari, confident his skills, speed, and fitness surpass even his younger competitors in Formula 1.
When Lewis Hamilton begins the next chapter of his Formula 1 career with Ferrari in 2025, the seven-time world champion will reach a milestone few drivers achieve: lining up on the grid at 40 years old.
But rather than seeing age as a limit, Hamilton believes he’s in the best shape of his life, both physically and mentally.
Reflecting on his journey, from an F1 rookie at 22 to a seasoned veteran of the sport, Hamilton feels time has only sharpened his skills.
“Honestly, right now, I feel healthier than ever. I’m in such great shape, both physically and mentally.”
“My reaction times are still the fastest, even compared to the younger guys. I believe I’m a better driver than I was at 22.”
Looking back at those early days, Hamilton acknowledges how much he’s grown.
“I was just young, energetic, and ruthless, but without finesse, without balance. I didn’t know how to be a team player, how to be a leader.”
“Being a great race driver isn’t just about being fast, it’s about being the most complete.”
