An unnamed financier hints at ambitious plans to revive the African F1 Grand Prix, sparking speculation across multiple potential host nations.
One of the financiers behind plans for the return of a Grand Prix in Africa has emerged in the figure of Christopher Aleo.
The 38-year-old Italian, CEO of iSwiss Bank, attended the season finale in Abu Dhabi last weekend.
His visit was accompanied by rumors that Aleo could be driving plans for an F1 race at potential locations in South Africa, Nigeria, Zanzibar (pictured), Rwanda, or Eswatini.
Aleo has connections to the royal families of the United Arab Emirates.
“I cannot disclose at this time which African nation we are working with, but I believe we will soon have an African Grand Prix.”
“This is a continent with strong social and economic growth that deserves this kind of economic boost.”
Aleo was in Abu Dhabi with his partner, Simona Jakstaite, the creative director of iSwiss Bank and a descendant of one of Lithuania’s leading industrial families, also involved in the return of F1 to Africa.
