Aston Martin F1 strives to overcome aerodynamic challenges and reclaim its position at the forefront of racing.
Aston Martin F1’s boss, Mike Krack, has conceded that his team is “off the plan” in terms of performance progress for 2024 so far.
Last year, the Silverstone-based team, amidst significant development and growth, surprised and impressed with Fernando Alonso’s series of podium finishes.
However, Alonso has subtly criticised his own team: Aston Martin is no longer among the top five Formula 1 teams.
Yet, Krack remains optimistic.
“Yes, I agree with Fernando that we are no longer clearly in the top 5, with the progress of RB F1. But we are not far off. I am confident that we can return to the podium and firmly rejoin the leading pack. The question is when.”
He reveals that Aston Martin F1 has made less aerodynamic progress so far this season, at least compared to its direct rivals.
“Aerodynamic development is the main performance differentiator in F1. But it takes time. It could be several weeks before we hit the track with what we’ve discovered in the factory.”
Krack admits that it would be even more challenging to correct the situation, as Formula 1 is now facing a “very intense” period with the triple-header of Barcelona – Spielberg – Silverstone.
“We are constantly rushing to get parts and we can never be fast enough. So, we must be patient.”
“There’s no point in complaining that other parts aren’t ready yet, as we still have many races ahead of us.”
