Aston Martin F1 welcomes Adrian Newey, but Enrico Cardile’s delayed arrival until July disrupts the team’s technical restructuring at a crucial time.
On track, the team had limited running during Bahrain testing, and according to Fernando Alonso, it is already focusing heavily on the 2026 project.
“If we are fighting for the world championship in 2025, that’s another story,” he stated. “But if not, I don’t think it makes much difference to be in a fluctuating situation. Because if it costs you something for 2026, that will be very painful.”
Despite this, ambassador Pedro de la Rosa tries to find positives, as he explained to Marca: “I think our drivers have made positive comments, but they have also pointed out areas where we need to improve.”
“Am I optimistic? I prefer to say I’m realistic, and I think we’ll have to work hard and dig deep to improve. I’d like to see results this year, but we have to face reality, don’t you think?”
Off the track, Aston Martin is also facing issues—although one very positive development is that Adrian Newey has finally started working at the factory this Monday. The team even shared a photo of his desk, featuring the renowned engineer’s drawing table.
The other concern involves another major recruit in the technical department. The arrival of new technical director Enrico Cardile was initially scheduled for March 3, but Ferrari has delayed the move, insisting that Cardile spend more time on ‘gardening leave.’
“The agreement on the leave was in place,” reports Corriere dello Sport, “but over the past month, everything has unraveled again. We understand that Cardile’s arrival alongside Newey is unlikely before July 17, a year after Ferrari announced his departure.”
“Owner Lawrence Stroll is furious. The green team had structured its technical reorganization with Cardile set to oversee the architecture, design, and construction of the new car. A crucial figure is now blocked at a crucial moment,” the Italian newspaper adds.
