Fernando Alonso eyes 2026 as his pivotal chance to secure a competitive car and topple Max Verstappen’s F1 supremacy.
Fernando Alonso has maintained his belief in his ability to make things “more difficult” for Max Verstappen if he were in a competitive F1 car with Aston Martin F1.
The Spaniard highlighted the Dutch driver’s lack of “weak points,” emphasizing his ability to consistently score points regardless of his car’s performance.
However, Red Bull was unable to provide Verstappen with a dominant F1 car throughout the 2024 season, with the RB20 often unbalanced and sensitive to bumpy track surfaces.
Still, Verstappen demonstrated ruthless consistency, which Alonso identified as the key to his fourth title.
“Max has proven he has no weak points. He always delivered on Sundays, scoring plenty of points when the car was good but also many points when it wasn’t.”
“And that’s the strength you need to win a championship, but you always think that if you have a competitive F1 car, maybe things could be more difficult for him. That’s what I hope to have in 2026. And if that’s the case, I’m sure we can beat him.”
Alonso is relying on the new 2026 regulations for a final chance to return to victories or perhaps a title. With Adrian Newey and a Honda engine, all hopes are alive.
“It will be my last chance to complete my career. It would be wonderful to try to improve, to be in a position to fight again for the world title.”
“For now, we are not in that position, and next year will probably be difficult. But I hope that in 2026, with the new regulations, we’ll have a better chance to at least try.”
