2025 RB F1's Season Hinges on Key Decisions

Ricciardo: RB F1 Faces Crucial ‘Turning Point’ 2025

12/07/2024

As 2025 unfolds, Daniel Ricciardo sees a crucial turning point for RB F1, urging effective development implementation.

Daniel Ricciardo believes RB F1 is at a pivotal moment in its season, having worked through a triple-header on evaluating its developments and implementing an effective package with both new and old specifications.

“It could really be a turning point,” said Ricciardo. “You’re at that moment where you have to make the best decisions. Every moment in F1 is crucial, but this evolution, our correlation, and our understanding can dictate what we do with the next development and how well we grasp it.”

“What we learn now will essentially dictate our car’s position in October and November, so it’s a very important period for us. I’m obviously not an engineer or an aerodynamicist. But at these times, I think our duty as drivers is to give everything we can.”

“The feelings, the feedback, the positives, the negatives, the comparisons with other cars, everything, just to allow them to understand why we are where we are at the moment. I’m laying a lot on the table and just saying ‘deal with it.’ We have to lay everything out.”

“I hope they can understand what we’re feeling on the simulator and can apply it to the real car. It’s teamwork. But yes, there’s a bit of work to do over these last three weeks.”

Haas impresses Ricciardo, who is concerned

Asked about the team that has surprised him recently, the Australian points to Haas: “The last two weekends, it was really Haas. Nico scored big two weekends in a row, and suddenly, our sixth place in the constructors’ standings is under threat. There’s just a three or four-point gap now.”

“That’s why, in all fairness to the team, we brought in developments two weeks ago, we pushed, we’ve been bringing developments every few races, and they’ve generally worked out very well.”

“This time, not as much as we would have liked. But it’s not for lack of effort. We’re being tested now: the season started off really well, and now it’s at a sort of plateau. We need to make a significant step forward.”

“Of course, people are frustrated, but it’s about being constructive and trying to keep everyone together. It’s also a source of motivation. You see Haas. They’ve obviously found something, so there is lap time to be found. We need to make sure we find it.”

Regarding his future, which depends on his performances, Ricciardo has no information but praises his work against Yuki Tsunoda: “I know my year, of course I’ve had some good moments, but overall, it hasn’t been what I expected and what I wanted for myself.”

“So I know that when you’re not kicking ass, you’re of course going to get some criticism. But sometimes, it’s a bit like it’s just wind, you know. I don’t think the gap has ever been… or rarely, you know, half a second or something like that with Yuki.”

“I also think he’s received a lot of praise, so I’m not getting kicked by someone who’s not very fast. I think everyone recognizes he’s very quick over a single lap. But yes, the battle between teammates is obviously very closely watched.”
