2025 F1 Calendar Set Pre-Season Tests in Doubt

2025 Formula 1 Season: Testing Sites and Calendar Woes

15/04/2024

As the 2025 F1 season approaches, questions linger about pre-season testing locations and calendar uncertainties. Early confirmations mix with unresolved issues, casting shadows over the forthcoming racing year.

Several question marks still hover over the new Formula 1 season calendar for 2025.

Another 24-race calendar awaits teams and drivers for the next year, with F1 and the FIA confirming this very early in the year (see below).

However, some questions remain unanswered, and uncertainties persist.

It has not yet been decided where the pre-season testing will take place, in particular.

Since Bahrain is not the start of the season in terms of Grand Prix, it would be advisable to conduct testing again in Southern Europe to reduce costs. But Bahrain would like to invite Formula 1 back to Sakhir for testing in late February, by footing the bill.

One advantage is the more consistent weather conditions, but the downside would be logistical issues related to the supply of spare parts.

The 2025 season should still see cars very similar to those of 2024 as the majority of resources will be devoted from January 1 to the F1s of 2026. Therefore, testing in Sakhir rather than Barcelona should not bother the teams.

Another question mark concerns the circuits that will be awarded the status of the “sprint” weekend format – with six such weekends likely once again in 2025.

F1 authorities are still negotiating with circuit promoters that favor overtaking. As always, the winners will be the races that are willing to pay the largest premium for these more attractive weekends.
