Comfortable and Confident, Leclerc Leads FP2

Charles Leclerc shone in FP2 at the Australian GP, leading Verstappen and showcasing Ferrari’s strength.

Charles Leclerc made a strong impression during the second practice session (FP2) of the Australian Grand Prix, posting the fastest time nearly four-tenths ahead of Max Verstappen. The Monegasque driver expressed satisfaction with his performance on the first day in Melbourne.

“It was a good first day, everything went smoothly from the start, and I felt comfortable in the car,” Leclerc stated. “The most crucial task for us tomorrow will be to adapt to the track and anticipate its evolution.”

“We’ll focus on fine-tuning our balance and aim to make further progress before qualifying. So far, so good, but we must wait and see what tomorrow brings, as I expect the field to be much closer.”

For Carlos Sainz, this Friday was particularly important as it marked his return to driving after undergoing an appendectomy two weeks ago. The Spanish driver felt at ease and managed to finish the day on a high note, which is reassuring.

“The past fortnight has been challenging until today, and to be honest, I’m very pleased to have completed both sessions feeling reasonably comfortable,” the Spanish driver remarked.

“I’ll continue to progress step by step to ensure I’m in the best possible shape for qualifying and the race. I’m optimistic about tomorrow, and overall, the car seems to be in a good position for the weekend. We will try to optimize everything—both body and machine!”
