Max Verstappen’s race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase reflects on parallels with 2021 and celebrates his driver’s incredible growth this season.
Gianpiero Lambiase, Max Verstappen’s race engineer, shared his thoughts in Las Vegas on his driver’s 4th title.
A title far harder to secure than in 2023, of course, even though it was clinched two Grands Prix before the end. Still, Lambiase drew comparisons to the incredible 2021 duel between Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton.
“This year bears many similarities to 2021. At times, it was quite intense.”
“The buffer we had cemented his title; otherwise, we would have been in serious trouble today. The car is still not the best at the moment.”
“But Max has taken another step forward, overcoming the quirks of his F1, which is probably hard to believe.”
“The effort he puts in with us, the respect he shows everyone, we’ve seen it. But he doesn’t need to be there winning every weekend, and he’s managed that frustration to collect the points.”
“He’s improved a lot, and I’m really proud of him.”
