Hamilton reflects on a challenging Q3 that cost him pole, despite showcasing impressive pace throughout the Las Vegas weekend.
Lewis Hamilton missed a strong opportunity for a result in Las Vegas, with two failed laps in Q3. The Mercedes F1 driver had been very quick all weekend but lamented not capitalizing on his pace in the final stages of qualifying due to a canceled lap and a mistake in his two Q3 runs.
“It didn’t come together when it mattered. I should have been on pole, but at least I had pace, which was positive. The race is going to be tough, though, and the win is out of reach,” confirmed the seven-time world champion.
“I’m really far back, so I’ll see what I can do from there. Degradation will be key, and we had a chaotic race here last year,” added the Briton, while acknowledging the performance of the W15 and George Russell’s pole position.
“That’s how it is. It’s been a good weekend so far, so I’ll do my best tomorrow, but congratulations to George. The conditions were great—it was nice and cool, and the weather has been beautiful all weekend.”
