Sergio Perez dismisses media rumors, confidently asserting his Red Bull future, while his father confirms a two-year extension.
Perez and his father have renewed their criticism of the media and the rumors surrounding the Mexican’s 2024 season.
Despite signing a new contract for 2025 earlier this year, the 34-year-old driver has faced challenges alongside Max Verstappen at Red Bull, fueling speculation about a potential replacement.
One of the latest rumors suggested he would announce his retirement during the recent Mexican GP.
“The media said he would say goodbye in Mexico,” said Perez’s father, politician Antonio Perez Garibay. “They should at least apologize now.”
While team advisor Dr. Helmut Marko still claims Red Bull will review Perez’s position after the season finale in Abu Dhabi, the Mexican driver says he has taken the rumors “with humor.”
“I laugh at everything the media makes up — everything they talk about,” said Sergio Perez. “I’m not speaking about everyone, as there are also professional journalists. But for an athlete, it’s hard to understand: anyone can have a bad race or make a bad decision, but in European media, there’s an excess of unprofessionalism.”
One of the latest rumors is that Red Bull boss Christian Horner has signed new partnerships with Perez-related sponsors for 2025, even approving team merchandise for 2025 featuring these new brands.
This could explain the apparent confidence of Perez and his father that he will remain Verstappen’s teammate beyond this year.
“Checo will be here for the next two years,” Antonio Perez Garibay added. “He has said that if the opportunity arises, he would consider retiring with Red Bull.”
“This is the most professional team at the moment — the world champion team. They do what is needed to improve, not just with Checo’s car but also with Max Verstappen’s.”
“They are always fighting for the championship. I think Max will be world champion again, and Red Bull is preparing to remain among the top three constructors. The restructuring will then come at the end of the year.”
