Brazil’s Gabriel Bortoleto steps into Formula 1, carrying immense national expectations after years without a Brazilian on the grid.
Rubens Barrichello stated that Brazil’s new F1 driver, Gabriel Bortoleto, will face high expectations.
Bortoleto is set to make his F1 debut with Sauber/Stake F1 next year. Barrichello noted that expectations will be significant in a country that has been without a driver on the grid recently and has produced many champions, including Ayrton Senna, Emerson Fittipaldi, and Nelson Piquet.
“I really like him,” Barrichello told the official F1 website. “For now, it’s not about driving skills; it’s about seeing how ready he is for the top category.”
“At the moment, everything is wonderful. People see you differently, the paddock watches you, and his behavior is entertaining.”
“He’s a very good driver. We just need to see how he develops mentally, how he handles things, because it’s going to be very stressful. He’s the next Brazilian in F1, and he promises a lot after his career so far.”
“For a long time, we didn’t have a driver at this level, so there’s a lot of expectation from his fans.”
