Gasly's Grit Shines as Alpine Struggles to Match Haas

Oakes: Alpine F1 lacked the pace to compete with Haas

Pierre Gasly’s solid finish highlights Alpine’s pace struggles, as Haas proves a formidable competitor at the Mexican Grand Prix.

Oliver Oakes, the Alpine F1 team principal, expressed satisfaction with Pierre Gasly’s tenth-place finish at the Mexican Grand Prix, following the French driver’s qualification within the top ten. He also praised Esteban Ocon’s comeback after starting from the pit lane.

“It’s good to leave Mexico with a point and return to the top ten,” said Oakes.

“Pierre drove a solid race considering we didn’t have the pace to compete with Haas in Mexico.”

“We took the opportunity to change some components on Esteban’s car, which led to his start from the pit lane and a rather long initial stint. This allowed him to regain positions throughout the race.”

However, the Briton regretted that the strong pace seen over a single lap in Saturday’s qualifying could not be replicated in the race.

“We weren’t as competitive in the race as we were in qualifying, so we have a bit of work to do for the upcoming rounds.”
