Hamilton Eyes Stronger Mexico Run After Austin Struggles

25/10/2024

After a tough Austin outing, Hamilton and Mercedes F1 hope for improved track adaptation at Mexico’s smoother, high-altitude circuit.

Lewis Hamilton hopes that the Mexico circuit will suit Mercedes F1 better than Austin, after the team struggled to understand their car in Texas. The two-time world champion admits he is hoping for a better outcome in Mexico this weekend.

“There’s no point looking back; it wasn’t great. I just want to do a better job and avoid a weekend like that again,” said Hamilton. “The car was unstable last weekend, but it was a bumpy circuit, and this one is smoother. Maybe we can be a bit closer to the front, but that’s a big ‘if.’”

George Russell, for his part, hopes to find a better setup compromise: “I think after reviewing everything with the team, we’re navigating too close to the edge. We know how aggressively we have to set up these cars, how low we have to run them, and it clearly caught both Lewis and me off guard.”

“But on the other hand, we saw glimpses of performance. We know we need to be more conservative with the setup, and we’re coming into this weekend with an open mind. Lewis will have the full upgraded car, and we’ll see how it goes.”

“My hope is always to win. But realistically, the goal is to be in the fight. After my accident, we only have one set of upgrades, and since it was my crash, Lewis had the choice and decided to use them. But we’ll have the chance to compare.”
