Verstappen: Red Bull ‘scrapped’ planned upgrades after Monza

24/10/2024

Red Bull’s decision to abandon planned upgrades after Monza has sparked a resurgence, benefiting Verstappen and the RB20 significantly.

Max Verstappen revealed that the balance issues Red Bull encountered with its 2024 Formula 1 car led the team to “scrap” the upgrades it had planned.

Red Bull once again dominated the early races this season, with Verstappen winning seven of the first 10 races, building a significant points lead.

However, Red Bull’s campaign began to falter when developments introduced unforeseen balance complications, causing the team to go eight rounds without a single win.

The Austrian team’s misfortunes cost them the lead in the Constructors’ Championship to McLaren and jeopardized Verstappen’s title hopes.

But Verstappen’s hopes were on the rise again last weekend in the United States, as Red Bull’s updates propelled him to victory in the Sprint and third place in the Grand Prix.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve felt this good in the car. Honestly, I don’t even remember when that was.”

“There’s always room for improvement, but certainly in fast corners, we’re doing very well.”

“And the balance issues, which were preventing us from attacking the corners, are much less of a problem now. So far, this first weekend with the updates shows we’ve made a very good step.”

“At Monza, we understood some things, which at least gave us a direction to work towards. It’s paying off now.”

“Everything related to the planned upgrades was scrapped after that race.”

“I’ve been pointing out a lot of things for weeks or even months regarding how I feel in the car, and it’s up to the team to fix it. Now, I’m already feeling much more comfortable overall.”
