Haas F1 Eyes More Points in Mexico After Sixth-Place Surge

23/10/2024

Haas F1, now sixth in the standings, seeks more points in Mexico, with Hülkenberg and Magnussen optimistic for strong performances.

Haas F1 made a strong move at the United States Grand Prix, snatching sixth place in the Constructors’ Championship from RB F1. The American team is now looking to build on that success with another solid result. Nico Hülkenberg has a particular fondness for the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

“Mexico is the second leg of my favourite part of the season. The culture is vibrant, and the fans at Foro Sol Stadium are sure to make some noise, even though their loudest cheers will be for Checo. It’s an interesting circuit and another great challenge. We’ll be ready,” said Hülkenberg.

Kevin Magnussen, who had his best weekend of the year in Austin, is also expecting a tough but exciting challenge in Mexico: “Mexico is a fun city, a fun track, and a fun event, with an incredible atmosphere thanks to the Mexican fans. The stadium section is a phenomenal part of the circuit.”

“The thin air makes it tough to cool the cars, and from an aerodynamic standpoint, it’s a challenging circuit. I think we’ve had both good and bad races here in the past, but our car is in good shape, so there’s no reason we can’t score points again.”

Ayao Komatsu, the team’s director, outlined the key challenges of the weekend, particularly the high altitude: “Mexico presents a unique challenge due to its altitude. The thinner air makes cooling difficult and significantly reduces downforce. The track has many low-speed corners with heavy braking zones.”

“We usually see very low grip levels in FP1, combined with a lack of downforce, so it’s a big challenge for both the drivers and engineers to get on top of things quickly. After our strong performance in Austin, we’re eager to tackle this challenge and aim for another top-10 finish.”
