Yuki Tsunoda remains hopeful for a Red Bull seat as Honda seeks a private test to demonstrate his skills.

Yuki Tsunoda has expressed his desire to prove to Red Bull that he is ready to secure a seat within the top team, Red Bull Racing.

Tsunoda is currently in his fourth season with Red Bull’s sister team, RB F1, and has been retained for next year’s campaign. However, he has consistently been overlooked in discussions for a seat within the leading team.

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko recently disclosed that Tsunoda was considered as a potential replacement for the struggling Sergio Perez at the Milton Keynes-based team. However, Liam Lawson appears to be in a stronger position should Perez be ousted or opt for retirement, a scenario Red Bull reportedly favours (read more here).

Lawson’s already impressive performances could further jeopardise Tsunoda’s chances, especially given the perception that he is too closely associated with Honda, who will supply engines to Aston Martin F1 from 2026.

During the United States Grand Prix weekend, it was revealed that Honda has been pushing Red Bull for Tsunoda to have a test in the RB20 (at the Yas Marina private tests), providing him with an opportunity to showcase his abilities. Marko has indicated openness to such a test.

When asked if the door to Red Bull Racing remains open for him, Tsunoda responded: “I hope so. I thought that when Daniel was my teammate, the opportunity had slipped away, but now it seems not.”

“I hope that after Daniel, things will happen – I hope they change their minds.”

“I’m sure there are a few key things they want to see from me, and as a driver, I know I need to improve over the next six races. I’ve known since the first half of the season that the option exists.”

“I just need to show them what I can do and continue improving. I need to become a driver they can’t find many faults with. I’m just trying to get as close as possible to being the perfect driver.”
