Oakes Eyes Positives After Mixed US Grand Prix for Alpine

Alpine F1’s Upgrades Deliver Strong Progress Despite Race Setback

Alpine F1’s recent upgrades brought clear progress, as Oakes looks to build on positive signs from Austin.

Alpine F1 shone during qualifying for the United States Grand Prix, but the race proved more disappointing. Team principal Oliver Oakes remains focused on the positives, praising Pierre Gasly’s one-lap pace with the upgraded A524.

“We can leave Austin with positives, particularly thanks to the performance of our upgrades, which resulted in our best starting position of the season with sixth place on the grid,” said Oakes.

However, he raised concerns about the drop in pace during the second stint: “It’s a shame we couldn’t capitalise on it. We encountered difficulties in the second stint and need to analyse that.”

A near seven-second pit stop for Gasly proved costly: “The team has worked incredibly hard on pit stops this year and made significant progress in recent races, but we missed one that was crucial.”

Nevertheless, the Briton remains undeterred: “These things happen in motorsport, and we win and lose as a team. We’re looking forward to getting back on track this week in Mexico.”
