Max Verstappen remains indifferent to tensions between Christian Horner and Zak Brown, insisting their feud is “not his concern.”
Max Verstappen has made it clear that the potential feud between Christian Horner and Zak Brown is “not my problem” following the discovery of an ingenious device on Red Bull’s car.
Ahead of the United States Grand Prix, a device was found on Red Bull’s RB20, which could have potentially allowed the team to adjust the car’s ride height while in parc fermé.
The FIA investigated the device and is confident that it has not been used in a way that would violate parc fermé regulations. However, McLaren’s CEO believes Red Bull still has many questions to answer regarding the device and suggests that employees should at least be required to swear under oath that it was never used in illegal conditions, just to have the option to revisit the matter in the future.
Verstappen acknowledges that the two team principals “don’t like each other” but insists that “it doesn’t interest me.”
“It’s not really McLaren as such, it’s more Zak, but Zak doesn’t need Christian, and vice versa. I don’t think either of them does. It’s not my problem.”
“Whether Zak and Christian like each other or not, it’s none of my business. Personally, I’ve always had a great relationship with Zak, that’s all I can say.”
When asked if he followed any of the media coverage surrounding the fallout over the device, Verstappen responded: “I don’t bother with it. I see it, I read it, and then I move on. I’ll watch the MotoGP replay or get on the simulator. It doesn’t interest me at all.”
The tensions between McLaren and Red Bull reached absurd levels in Austin, with Brown accusing Marko of setting back progress on mental health awareness in F1 with his comments on Norris’s weaknesses.
“That wasn’t the intention at all,” Marko replied. “What Zak has made of it, I don’t think is entirely fair. And it’s a shame because I’ve always had a good relationship with Lando.”
“It was purely a comment regarding his experience and maturity. In two years, he’ll be mentally much stronger. And we all know Max made mistakes in his early years in Formula 1 too.”
“Lando is a fantastic driver, but pressure also plays a part. And with more experience and success, you naturally handle that better.”
