Alonso 13th - Stroll 15th as Aston Martin struggles

Aston Martin F1 falls short of points in Austin

21/10/2024

Aston Martin F1 couldn’t match the pace needed for points in Austin, with Alonso finishing 13th and Stroll 15th.

No points for Aston Martin F1, unsurprisingly, in Austin.

The AMR24 was never on race pace with Haas F1 or RB F1, making it hard to break into the top 10 despite a Q3 qualification on Saturday.

Fernando Alonso finished 13th.

“It was a tough race for us today, and we lost a few places compared to our starting position. I think we outperformed the car’s natural position in qualifying, and we knew it would be a tough battle to stay in the top 10. It was a difficult weekend, and we have a lot to analyze in the coming days to improve for Mexico.”

15th place, Lance Stroll admitted, “We lacked pace compared to the other cars today. I struggled a bit after contact with another F1 at Turn 10, but I think even without that, the result would have been the same. The car didn’t have the performance to fight for good positions. We still have work to do to improve this car, and we’ll give it everything to get there.”

Mike Krack, team principal, summed up: “A very tough race day. It’s really disappointing to leave the weekend with no points.”

“The midfield is incredibly tight, and we were on the wrong side of the competition. We simply didn’t have pace all weekend. We need to learn from days like this, double down our efforts, and put actions in place for next weekend in Mexico.”
