Zhou Misses Stake F1 Upgrades as Bottas Gets the Edge

17/10/2024

Guanyu Zhou, disappointed over upgrades delay, is focused on securing his Formula 1 future with Stake amid ongoing discussions.

Guanyu Zhou is disappointed not to have the upgrades available at Stake F1 for Valtteri Bottas this weekend. All teams are bringing new developments after a four-week break, and the Hinwil-based team is the only one not offering them to both drivers. However, the Chinese driver remains hopeful that the updates will have a positive impact.

“It’s good to see updates, but unfortunately, they’ll only be on one car, not mine. Valtteri will test them this weekend, and I should have them for Mexico. We’ll see what they bring,” said Zhou, who is well aware that his future in Formula 1 will be decided in the coming weeks.

“We’re in discussions; everything is in the hands of Mattia [Binotto, the new project leader], who is here this weekend and working with my management team. All I can say is that I’m trying to do my job here to impress him, and we’ll see what the future holds.”

“We’ve already had meetings with him, and there are opportunities, but nothing is decided yet, and nothing is black or white. I’m focused on the present, and we’ll see how things unfold.”

Asked about Stake’s chances of finishing the season strongly and climbing up the standings, Zhou was cautious, admitting it may be too late to reverse the trend, though he hopes to close the gap on the team’s rivals.

“I don’t think we can gain any positions in the constructors’ championship, but we’ve been working hard to regroup and evolve as an organisation. We’re seeing positive signs, but at this stage of the season, it’s hard to say we can change things.”
